WINNERS OF THE BRITISH-SWISS BUSINESS AWARDS 2013 ANNOUNCED

Over 160 business leaders and guests attended the third, annual British-Swiss Business Awards in Geneva to celebrate the success of some of the British-Swiss business community’s most innovative companies in 2013.

29th November 2013

A distinguished panel of independent judges had the difficult task of selecting the winners that were recognised for their contribution to business in the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

Four organisations each received one of the prestigious trophies, including Phonak AG, one of the leading manufacturers of hearing systems, who won the Company of the Year Award. The Head Judge of this category, Dr. Guy E. Waldvogel, Former Industrial Executive and Independent Management Consultant, noted ‘Better hearing is the broad scope of Phonak. It means improved communication, break-down of social isolation, transmission of knowledge and enjoyment of musical emotion in Britain, Switzerland and all over the world. The company deserves particular commendation for its comprehensive and human approach.’

The Small Company of the Year Award received numerous impressive submissions and was won by Trans Data Management Ltd, providers of communication and security systems, who were commended for their innovative business model.

‘Trans Data Management Ltd deserves this award due to its successful business model and long-term management team while ideally serving the British-Swiss market’, said this category’s Head Judge, Reto Frei, Co-Founder and COO of Tibits AG.

ABB Sécheron won the Innovation 2013 award.  The Innovation category’s Head Judge, Jesús Martin-Garcia, Director at Eclosion, stated: ‘In 2013, ABB Sécheron proved again that innovation is in its DNA by showcasing, in Geneva, the world’s first, fully electric, articulated bus. ’

Firmenich SA, creators of some of the world’s best-known perfumes and flavours, triumphed in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility. ‘Firmenich works relentlessly to identify different materials and innovative processes which make products of natural origin. They have also started to develop a new business model – congruent with the concept of the “Circular Economy” - which is increasingly supported by alternative energy and consistently focuses on social issues’, said Head Judge of the CSR category, Dr. Francisco Szekely, Professor of Global Leadership and Sustainability at IMD, Lausanne.

Details of the 12 finalists can be viewed on the Business Awards website – www.britishswissbusinessawards.co.uk

The Judging Panel emphasised that the quality of entrants was uniformly high, showing a remarkable breadth and depth of entrepreneurial flair and commitment. Chair Judge Thomas Hoehn, Professor at Imperial College Business School London, stated: The selected finalists have demonstrated to the judges either superior corporate or entrepreneurial achievements, a successful track record of innovation or the establishment of a convincing CSR culture.

The British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce wishes to express its thanks to the partners, judges, and entrants for this interesting and inspiring event aimed at strengthening the long and fruitful relationship between Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
